did you see the movie dan in real life? well i did, about 17 times and then i bought it and watched it another 26 times. i LOVE this movie. my most favorite thing about this movie is the family's house in Rhode Island.

well, a few months ago i decided to google the dan in real life house and do you know what? you can RENT it out! if i were rich enough to even imagine renting something for $6200 for a measly 7 days i would book this sucker!

it's so beautiful and it's tucked in the heart of coastal rhode island. if you haven't seen this movie, i suggest you go to your local blockbuster, netflix, red box, whatever and rent it.

you'll laugh, you'll cry and you'll cringe a little bit but you'll love love love it. plus, it has steve carrell and you just can't go wrong with anything he's in!

i just passed my 200th post! that's a blogging milestone right?

well, here's what i've been up to lately...

um, have you seen/done this workout before?

this is the hardest, most exhausting and non stop workout i've ever done.

i'd like to think i have a good bit of stamina, but then i did this video ending it curled up in a fetal position covered in more sweat than i feel comfortable describing, asking the good lord to take me right then and there.

some of the more "subtle" symptoms of this workout that i've experienced are

1. the shakes

2. chills

3. hurling over the side of our back deck (that was lady like)

4. that fetal position i described above

5. more hurling (yep)

most of these may be caused by doing this workout outside in the hellish temperatures on our deck, but it requires a lot of moving so the deck provides the most space. after a couple minutes you want to just die anyway so the heat is really the last thing on our minds.

it's a 60 day "program" and scott and i are on day 9 and already i feel like i can do more than i could the first couple times.

i got this new nail polish the other day at target and really love it. its purple but has a tint of gray in it.

target has been kind of a mad house recently with all the kiddos going back to school. i loved shopping for the new school year. pencils, folders, new shoes, new clothes, lunchbox and backpack. everything was newly sharpened and my pencil box was clean. my backpack was picked out with special care and my lunchbox didn't smell like lunch yet. i got to pick out everything while i carried around the list in the store. it was so fun for me. i can't believe that was 15 years ago. life goes by so fast. blah.

scott has been in a "soup" mood recently so who do we rely on when we want to make a hearty soup? Ina of course! my barefoot contessa cookbook has so many great soups including a roasted potato and leek soup. the process was a little involved but well worth it.

it truly is an understatement to say that friends really are good for my soul. last weekend i got to spend time with my great friends in destin and it was so relaxing, full of laughing and delicious chocolate cake that i would have bathed in if that weren't awkward. i wasn't there for very long unfortunately but the time i was there was so fun! here's some pictures to recap:

summer is such a fun time of year for me, and for scott.

it's a mix really, the first half is spent away from our house on summer project and the second half is slower. i really love both, but it has been so nice to have a few things to do here and there and then just do whatever i want to do. i've been able to sleep in, cook a lot, spend time with friends, read and watch a lot of food network to get more cooking inspiration.

this weekend i'm going to the beach to hang out with my summer project staff girls :)

i can't wait! soon enough the school year will start and then it'll be december and i won't remember where the year has gone. this will be my last little hoorah, i think. if something else pops up i won't complain.

so, so hot.

it's hotter than the center of hell here in tallahassee. by 9am you can expect temperatures to be in the high 90's with the humidity reaching 80-90%. this leaves residents like me quite miserable! it's impossible to be outside without a pool within 10 feet for more than half an hour unless you experience things starting to spin or you're plagued with heat exhaustion.

none the less our dog still has to get walked and we can't stay inside all day. so what do we do?

1. we are cooking recipes that don't require the stove or oven on, at least not for very long.

2. we go to the pool around the corner from our house and spend a couple hours relaxing and dipping in every 10 min.

3. we make fruit smoothies to keep us cool.

4. we go to movies on cheap days. last night we saw inception. it's a great movie, tons of thinking involved, lots of action and super fast. 2 1/2 hours felt like 1. i suggest you see it, it's definitely worth it!

5. reading in a coffee shop gets us out of the house but we still get to stay cool all the while continuing on our summer reading list! i've finished 4 books this summer...that's a record people.

scott suggested today that we play in the hose. not a bad idea...

so, these are just a few things we do during the summer to stay hydrated, cool and sane. what do you do?

tonight scott and i went to kool beanz in midtown for dinner. i love this place for several reasons. the menu constantly changes leaving it full of fresh and fun ingredients that are unique to the restaurant. i also love that they have quaint outdoor seating if you'd like to venture into the heat of summer. their wine menu is displayed on an actual empty wine bottle which is super funky! they bring fresh bread and fluffy butter to the table and their menu is clipped on a clip board.

on the menu tonight we saw anything from coffee rubbed pork tenderloin to green tea salmon. every item is paired with yummy sides too, or you can splurge and get a couple appetizers like homemade hummus, falafel or seared shrimp and grits. tonight scott and i shared the artichoke and roasted red pepper hummus and the brie and pear stuffed chicken which came with rosemary-thyme potatoes and asparagus. it was d-e-l-i-s-h. if you live in tallahassee and haven't been, GO! if you're visiting make a stop, you won't be disappointed.

i'm back to review those cupcakes. they were so delicious! i couldn't taste the difference at all and they were only roughly 200 cal a cupcake. not bad for a little dessert! you should try adding veggies into your dessert in place of butter or oil...you'll be pleasantly surprised! enjoy your monday night. tonight...real housewives of NJ! cupcakes and zucchini.

strange combination. i followed a recipe that incorporates this veggie into vanilla cupcakes. i've always wanted to see how well the flavor of a vegetable in a sweet glorious dessert can be masked. they are cooking away in my oven at the moment. i'll review after eating one.

scott and i have been enduring "hell week." minus this cupcake i'll be eating here in a sec to kick off our mad men marathon, we haven't eaten any excess sweets or snacks since thursday and plan on continuing to do so until next thursday. sort of a detox-get the crap out-cleanse this bod of mine week. i'll also review this next week. so far, i'm starving. but it's fine. sort of.

also, a couple days ago i made home made nutri grain bars. they are so so good. i enjoy a good boxed, peel the wrapper back nutri bar as much as the next girl, but gosh darnit, these are better. the crunchy topping makes them hard to resist. the only thing keeping me from eating the whole pan is a piece of foil and lemme tell you, that stuff is weak. not really :) only a little at breakfast! remember, hell week? nothing in excess!! bahhhh, i hate/love you scott for doing this to me.

do you know who i really missed while in miami? ina garten...yep, i've missed her soothing voice and consistently blue attire, not to mention her french inspired, buttery sugary cuisine. today, a perfect french dinner party? invite me over Ina!!

scott and i are about to start watching season 1 and 2 of mad men before the premiere of season 4 next week. we are skipping season 3 cause we already did a synopsis.

life has resumed...kind of.

i'm in Virginia right visiting Emily! Scott is bored out of his mind in Jacksonville waiting for my return. Then we will venture back to tallahassee.

summer is so fun but so busy at the same time. summer project definitely helped relax and refresh us but then we were only home 5 days before going back to jacksonville to celebrate the 4th and catch a flight to VA.

oh well, that's what its all about right?

we went blueberry picking today. let me tell you what...that is an affordable and fun way to get lots of blueberries! i got roughly two pounds for under $5. that's cheap!

now we're at demolition coffee in the heart of petersburg. tonight we're going into the big city of richmond to have dinner and go to a movie in an old historic theatre! i'm excited to see this theatre. it's been restored to its original condition from the 1920's. so fun!

life is...

fill in the blank right? i'm sure everyone can at this point. maybe tomorrow it will change for you. today for me, life is all about change. i feel like i finally get my grip on understanding one thing, and then something new is brought into the light and i have to start asking questions all over again. this isn't complaining, this is processing. i think this comes with age and life circumstances but i want to be anchored in Christ when i feel this way. i'm asking myself a lot of questions and i'm feeling a lot of different emotions, and i don't want to let emotion dictate my attitude or my overall outlook on life that day.

i want idols to be stripped. materialism, myself, my desires. instead of advancing myself, i want to advance Him. i want people and souls to matter more than cars, my house, clothing or the new iphone. that stuff is meaningless. pure meaningless.

miami is like the mecca of all things materialism. more women have boob jobs in this city than the amount i've seen in my entire life. radio advertisements consist of $400 liposuction and every billboard is telling me how fast and how cheap i can lose that 30 lbs.

i've never been around such "stuff" yet such a miserable city.

i want my significance to be found in him. i want my worth to be rooted in who he created me to be.

this is my prayer.

we've arrived in miami and this is our home here.

we'll be here for 6 weeks!

we're just enjoying being with staff friends and hanging out before students arrive.

miami is another country. if you've never been here before it's a tad bit of a culture shock.

this isn't the south but that's ok.

hopefully everyone is enjoying summer. the humidity and heat is full on here in florida.

you who haven't experienced that life sucking weather yet, take advantage of the cool breeze.

i bought this little onesie at Marshalls today.

it was only $20.

i have to wear a slightly more modest bathingsuit this summer while in miami.

not that i'd go wild and crazy and buy a thong or anything.

or maybe i would.

probably not.

granted, i do not look plastic nor frozen while i am wearing this suit as is the woman you see here.

oddly enough i felt a little more exposed when i tried this on.

ironic.

anyway, i like new swimsuits and this is the new one!

goodfinds.

i enjoy thrifting, and i especially enjoy it when the items are reasonably priced. here in tallahassee we have a little hidden gem that i hope continues to remain hidden and it's called Goodfinds. The owner is really nice and doesn't mind negotiating prices and he has TONS of stuff. All but one of the things I bought over the weekend were in his 75% off section, and he took more off when we got to the register.

first, here's maggie and her boyfriend sleeping. cute huh? they lay like this all the time and they kiss each other. i think they're secretly humans. not really. but maybe.

i think is going to go in our bedroom along with our other french inspired things.

he gave me this fabric for free. i have to figure out what i'm going to make from it but its really cute.

these boots were only $5.50! i'm wearing them now and i love them!

this was tagged "miniature picture", who would've guessed?

this is a painting and i just love the colors and simplicity of it. i think it will go in our room as well.

anyway, all together everything was only $20!

strawberry jam is the jam.

strawberries are cheap cheap cheap, and what better way to use them up to make jam for you and friends.

spread it on some toast, or bathe in it or pour some in your hand and just lick it off.

whatever you prefer, me personally, i prefer some toast.

anyway, it's SUPER simple to make.

here's a recipe recap:

2 quarts of strawberries, tops cut off and sliced however you like.

3 c of sugar (or however much or little you prefer)

1 box of pectin (found near jell-o in the store)

3/4 c of water

i used a food processor to give my strawberries the smashed look, but you can use whatever method you want.

add your sugar and let your strawberries just sit for a few.

boil 3/4 c of water and the packet of pectin together and stir constantly.

mix the pectin mixture into the strawberries and stir it up.

pour into individual jars and give them away or keep them all for yourself.

let sit in fridge for about 24 hours to give it time to thicken up before you serve or freeze.

see? pretty simple and i say use different fruits too. strawberries are yummy but so are blueberries and blackberries and raspberries! try them all!

weekends should last forever.

don't i wish sometimes? this weekend was just one of those fun and relaxing ones that you never want to end. the weather was really great, kathleen and i went thrifting and scored big time, had a movie night and then a cookout with friends. it was just so fun and i don't want it to end. but i suppose it must. life goes on and monday comes without me asking it to, rude.

friends and bologne.

you know how i really love to remember the good ole days of my youth? well when hanging out with our friends, the insalacos, we all did it together, reminisced that is.

kathleen loved bologne, gross i don't know how. scott loved little debbies and jeff ate lunch from the cafeteria pretty much everyday. i loved vienna sausages, you know those little hot dogs that come in a can? i know, repulsive if you ask me but hey. i also loved capri sun and nutter bars.

the little things in life that pleases a 7 year old. i guess sometimes you just gotta go with it.

this conversation was sparked by our watching of jamie olivers "Food Revolution" on abc.

have you seen it? what he is doing is pretty incredible if you think about it. he's taking on quite a task of getting wholesome foods into schools as opposed to processed.

kevin and woodfire grille!

scott and i went to atlanta recently for a meeting we had to attend for work so we decided to try Kevin Gillespie from Bravo's Top Chef famous restaurant in Buckhead, Woodfire Grille.

we almost got to meet him but he was running off to be on a conference call so we were pretty bummed, but he did sign a menu for us! here's a little photo recap.

sometimes when my anthropologie catalogue comes i get depressed. ha.

scott bought some seeds so we could grow wildflowers and here is the little dirt section they'll hopefully bloom from. we'll see. they cost a dollar from the dollar section at Target. My husband is so frugal.

we bought basil and rosemary! aren't they huge? i was sick of plucking off all the leaves from the $2 ones i was buying from Publix. This one was $12 and it's like 5 times the size of the little ones I'd been buying!

welcome home, it's not christmas anymore.

promise you won't judge me after you see what's been hanging on my door for the last 5 months.

yeah, we're those people. i guess you could equate us to the people who take 9 months to take down their christmas lights on their house.

yikes.

when my parents visited last weekend, the first thing my mom said was

"oh, still celebrating christmas are we?"

at least it jingles when you walk in right?

so i found a tutorial on MADE on making a homemade wreath.

so i thought i would try it for myself and change it up a bit.

i will tell you though, this is quite a time consuming project.

you are also liable to get burned 747 times by the glue gun like i did.

and you feel like your eyes are crossing from staring at the pattern for hours.

about halfway through!

i needed a giant sweet tart to spark my brain after a couple hours.

blistered knee! small but painful haha

the final product! i decided to spray paint it blue and that's an ivory ribbon with it.

i figured this color can take us through spring and summer.

here is the cost of the project:

wreath: $4 from Michaels

lima beans: 2 bags at $2/bag from Publix

ribbon: $4 from Michaels but you can find it cheaper cause i went back today and it was 60% off!

spray paint: ~$6 from Michaels (mine was leftover from a previous project)

.....and you'll need a hot glue gun!

anyway, if you're looking to spruce up your door you should try it. just devote a good bit of time and try not to burn any appendages off.

easter and turning 24.

am i really 24 now? how strange. even saying 24 sounds older.

i'm liking it so far.

my family was here for easter weekend which also included my birthday. it was really fun to have them here and to be able to celebrate with them.

we had a breakfast out on the back porch in the morning, a delicious picnic made by kathleen and then some pizza that night. basically the whole day revolved around eating. i liked it though.

we celebrated easter by going to church and then going out to lunch as a family. they left shortly after and scott and i watched movies and did nothing. it was glorious.

my parents did bring both family dogs though, therefore we hosted 3 dogs all weekend. here they are all loving on scott ever so cutely. notice bella behind scotts head. she's crazy and quite fast. try catching her when you need to put her in the kennel. nearly impossible and a great workout.

all in all, a great weekend. lots of food, family, friends and fun.

this year should be grrrrreat!

i'm nearly having a seizure from the blinding blinking lights that he is dancing under. if you want to call that dancing.

what's sad is that he really does think he is the shiz.

on a happier note.

spring has arrived in tallahassee and i couldn't be happier.

you can pretty much count on consistent warm sunny weather here for this season

which means doors and windows open and lots of time outdoors.

so scott and i ventured to target and bought new furniture for our back deck!

i really love eating outside when the weather is nice.

we didn't have any furniture out there so we decided to get a whole set!

now we can eat breakfast lunch and dinner out there.

maybe we'll just move out there.

probably not though.

who do donuts have to be so freaking good?

i have this problem with meandering around food blogs late at night.

this results in late night baking.

nothing healthy comes out of this, i assure you.

i wish i could say, oh i made this great broccoli and spinach whole wheat tart.

nope.

ever heard of the pioneer woman?

she is quite a lady i tell you. i admire her. i do.

she lives on a farm, and she does all the farmly things a wife of a real cowboy would do.

she rounds up cattle, but not in a hick-i have no teeth-i don't bathe kind of way.

she is a mom, a funny lady, and she is a seriously good cook.

it's not the healthy kind of cooking though, its the full fat don't skimp on the butter kind of cooking. all or nothing.

on nights like last night, this caught my attention and then i saw a picture of her "perfectly glazed donuts."

she said they are non-caloric. don't believe her for a second.

she also said they will melt in your mouth and anyone you give them to will want to praise you for the days to follow. who doesn't want a little praise every now and then?

so i went to making the dough before bed last night and finished them off this morning in a pot full of hot fatty oil.

result? delicious freshly glazed warm donuts for breakfast with a cold glass of milk.

you should've come over...

running and bread should go hand in hand i think....

this past weekend scott and i participated in the largest 15k in the united states!

the gate river run!

9.3 miles and the last mile being the "green monster" aka largest bridge in the city.

perfect end to an already long run.

but we did it, and we survived.

the best moment was running down the bridge and down the exit ramp

because downhill is always better than uphill

plus you got a nice cold beer as a reward for the torture.

anyway, now our next goal is a half marathon and we are considering the one Disney is hosting in October which they pair with the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot.

plus the run is at night, and that's fun right?

this is the oatmeal honey wheat bread that i made last night.

i wish you could taste it because it is so so delicious.

it's the perfect balance of flavors and its so moist.

scott and i had to force ourselves to bag it up last night because we wanted to keep lathering on the butter and slicing away.

i urge you to make this bread immediately but be prepared to desire the entire loaf after one little itsy bitsy taste.

the title alone got your attention didn't it?

they say it's the greatest of the 5 senses that will bring things back to remembrance.

memories, if you will.

today i had one of those moments where i smelled something and it was as if i traveled back in time to my childhood friends house.

playing dress up on the floor of her bedroom.

the fake play perfume, that's what i smelled.

a chap stick that i got in my stocking for christmas smells so much like that spritzy perfume she had in her "dress up" trunk.

i miss being a kid so much sometimes.

i know that may sound weird. maybe it doesn't.

i loved my childhood. it was imaginative and fun.

in fourth grade, instead of playing on the playground with my friends i would sit on the concrete four square area and write my own nancy drew novels, where i was the main character, of course.

my friends and i would create these elaborate extremely well written (ha) playwrights

and off into never never land we would go.

i think i was truly convinced that one day i would solve a mystery, just like nancy drew.

i hope, if i have a daughter (god, please) she will want to read nancy drew and write her own stories.

maybe box car children too.

and the christy miller books i read as a teenager.

my parents called me the other day, together, on speakerphone(yep they do that)and started getting reminiscent on me. i'm not always a fan of these conversations because typically when i hang up i end up bawling on scott's shoulder because i feel like life is slipping through my fingers and there's nothing i can do about it.

he gently reminds me that this isn't our permanent home.

heaven is. there is no need to fear.

so dad says "before you know it, we'll be celebrating your 30th birthday."

umm, excuse me? can we not talk about my 30th birthday.

mom agreed.

i have 6 more years before that comes, i'd like to enjoy that time before you throw me under the bus, thanks.

but i will be 24 next month, and that seems old to me.

i was 8 just a few years ago, or at least that's how i feel.

i got the recipe from this blog and i had a lot of fun making it.

making bread is very therapeutic and it takes a lot of patience.

something i need to practice.

poor scott can attest to that.

the recipe makes two loaves so we shared with the insalacos!

it was great for toasted for breakfast.

you should definitely make it!

this afternoon i was doing laundry, walking back and forth down this hallway from our bedroom. cleaning our house and folding clothes. all the boring stuff, but i looked up at one point and noticed how pretty the light was coming in through this window and so i snapped a photo. our house gets great lighting during the day and in the early morning and i don't always stop and look, so today i did.

also, we are only two weeks away from the gate river run in jacksonville!

today we ran 7 miles so we are coming close to our goal.

but my body is hurting now. ugh. is there a way to prevent post run pain? help.

jesus.

this picture seems to describe a trend of emotions and beliefs of students at FSU that i've been talking to lately. this month we deemed february "february focus" and focused on evangelism on campus. not the in your face believe it or go to hell kind of evangelism, but the tell me your opinion i'm listening and i care kind of evangelism. the jesus kind, i think. he did it gently and not so gently at times, but he is gentle. i've had at least thirty to forty spiritually focused conversations this month with people i didn't know and i learned several things. i've shared my faith before, many times, overseas and here. i believe what i am saying with every fiber of my being, it sustains me and it is full of grace, so why don't i share it more often and without fear or "obligation?" well, honestly, sometimes i don't care about others. i have my schedule, my agenda and my time. i don't want to always include others in all of that. i want to keep to myself and get my things done. but i am learning that God loves and is pursuing all people and he is always, always working ahead of me. and more importantly, he doesn't need me.

i talked to a girl named blake, she had a very scientific view of God and creation but she was searching. she even told me that. she wanted to know truth.

she asked me about the bomb dig of all questions, can you guess?

what do i think about homosexuality?

another girl asked me...

you think jesus is the only way?

i do, and i pray i never say otherwise.

what about the people who never hear, or the innocent in africa?

all great questions.

some i know how to answer, some i don't.

but in the midst of it i am praying like a crazy person.

do you know how many false truths are being spoken all over campus, let alone the world?

it can be overwhelming and sometimes i am really scared when i approach people because what if i don't know the answer to their questions?

i am so, so very thankful that he is bigger than my lack of knowledge or fear.

whether he decides to use me or not, he is relentless when it comes to knowing his children.

it's about jesus, his sacrifice on the cross for mine and your sin.

a personal relationship with him where he grows you and you grow towards him.

it's admitting you're sinful and without him you have no hope.

his grace is sufficient for you.

sin doesn't go away, but neither does his forgiveness.

hard things will come, but joy comes in the morning.

it's a lifetime of growth and turning from sin and becoming more like him.

this is what i get to share when i approach people on campus.

awkard? sure sometimes. worth it though. always.

i pray that everything else that isn't this, is forgotten and wiped away.

50 years.

this weekend we celebrated my mom's parents 50th wedding anniversary. my grandparents are still so in love after many, many obstacles they had to overcome. the first being that they were only 16 and 17 when they were married, and no one was really in favor of this, except for them :) When my great-grandmother found out they were planning on getting married, she called ahead to the justice of the peace and told them to refuse marrying them! my grandmother worked at simmons mattress company and my grandfather was a barber. shortly after they got married they became pregnant with my mom and had NO money. i think sometimes scott and i are poor, but they were definitely poor. for mom's first christmas they had $1.00 to spend on a gift for her so they bought her a teddy bear. their story is really incredible and very romantic. here are some pictures of the party!

i added some new curtains to either side of the bed!

i feel like it adds a little bit of elegance to the room.

our room gets a lot of light at night due to a dumb but much appreciated street light,

so i asked scott to hang these so that it could be dark.

a new duvet! it's pretty gray and i love it!

i got it from marshalls and it included shams.

i found these at a second hand store called goodfinds.

they had such great stuff and both of these together were less than $20.

i love finding original things that add personality to our room.

scott and i are running in the gate river run 15k in march!

we have been training for it for a few weeks now and we are up to 5 miles.

the last time i ran this i was in the 7th grade.

julia child's beef bourguignon!

ok, so i did it! i conquered the beast of julia child's infamous beef bourguignon.

the process was very fun, and scott and i got some good laughs in.

we had to keep re-reading the directions to make sure we were staying on track because there are 10,000 steps.

the ingredients weren't too bad either. nothing isn't available at a grocery store, so that's a plus!

we took lots of pictures to document this momentous occasion, so here we go!

this morning i pulled out the griddle and made these chocolate chip pancakes.

our friends allie and skyler gave this to us as a christmas gift. creative huh?

they are really simple and very yummy!

ina and tomatoes, how bad could that be?

tonight i am making chicken stuffed with mozzarella and sun-dried tomatoes with a balsamic reduction. i am just using different elements of a couple recipes to see how it all tastes together. we shall see!

my sister got me this lovely cookbook for christmas. it sits on my coffee table most often and i just grab it up when i want to peruse some recipes for enjoyment. i must admit, we didn't use to love ina. in fact we made fun of her, a lot. mostly for her inappropriate advances towards her chicken loving husband, jeffrey and her cheesy comments like "how bad could that be?" but listen, she is good, really good. even though she demands much (like "good" chicken stock and "good" maple syrup- listen ina that's expensive) she does it because she knows food.

we are sorry for making fun of you ina. please invite us to the hamptons to eat at your house with you. and when you do, please greet us wearing that big blue shirt of yours, it's our favorite.

my coffee, i don't drink it every morning, nor do i usually get through a whole cup. i have no idea why this is.

morning sunlight coming through our living room windows wakes up me up in the morning, plus it's calming.

kashi heart to heart honey toasted o's cereal. if i can't eat my traditional delicious general mills honey nut cheerios, this is the best it's gettin.

blueberries, are one of my most favorite fruits. you can throw them on top of anything and it adds extra sweetness.

this picture is just for kicks. does your coffee table somehow go from clean and clear, to cluttered and messy? it's so aggravating. i find myself getting frustrated at scott for cluttering it up, but as you can see, most of it is my stuff. sorry scott, sometimes you're just the brunt of my frustration. not fair, but that is life.

when i find something to eat that i enjoy, i tend to stick to it.

for the last few days i've been eating brussel sprouts for lunch and dinner.

i roast them and i steam them, both ways i enjoy.

the apple and cheese is my mid morning snack. between breakfast and lunch i can get really hungry and this ties me over. plus its super tasty.

sometimes i come to this blog and i have no idea what to write.

like today.

nothing extravagant is going on in our life.

it's 5:30 on friday evening, and the weather has been incredible today.

the sun is shining through our window and warming me through the cuddle blanket i'm under.

i just took my vitamins, that's exciting right?

actually, i sound like i'm 87.

i am watching, Friends and laughing. my favorite show of all time.

my parents wouldn't let me watch it when i was in middle school, so i would sneak it.

i always had the remote in my hand and i had an "allowed" channel ready to flash back to if my mom or dad walked in the room. when the show was over and i turned the tv off, i made sure the channel couldn't be traced. it was a lot of work.

my parents let me watch it in high school even though they thought it was dirty.

tonight we are eating "striped delight"

here are the ingredients, try not to drool as you read.

graham cracker crust which includes butter and sugar.

homemade whipped cream.

chocolate pudding.

homemade whipped cream, again.

dark chocolate shavings on top.

oh my yum.

i lied awake last night, partly because there was a big thunderstorm and partly because i couldn't get Haiti out of my mind. i kept seeing children's faces from pictures i've seen, picturing children in the streets, alone. i didn't sleep much. also, i have been following a few people who have been living there since September while they built an orphanage about 20 miles away from Port-au-Prince. they experienced the earthquake and the aftermath that followed. his blog is so vivid and real its unbelievable. my heart, actually my whole body aches when i think of the children who have lost their families, the babies who have been abandoned and the chaos and confusion they are experiencing. a small part of me wonders what God is doing in the midst of this horrible thing, but another bigger part of me knows that he cares for those he created. i myself didn't realize the severity of Haiti. the amount of orphans, the poor conditions, the lack of opportunity. i know many people who invest in going to Haiti several times a year and i wish i had gone. they say Haitians have beautiful spirits and i believe it. it looks like we will get to go this summer and spend time there loving on the people and bringing the hope of the gospel. i am thankful that God is sovereign and in control and that his plans are perfect. his ways are greater than man's. it's easier to get frustrated at the government of Haiti or lack thereof but we should spend our time praying for them, praying for hope, and a sense of peace amongst the chaos. God is capable, he is real and he is revealing himself to many. pray for the friends in haiti, they went back yesterday to bring some food and medical supplies. this is their website if you're interested in checking it out. i recommend it.

my sister got me ina's cookbook for christmas and my parents got me the new clean eating cookbook.

i've been reading them almost everyday and have gotten so many new recipes to try.

being by myself in the kitchen, just me and my tongs is therapeutic.

i like the fact that you get a result when you're done.

i read the instructions, i measure out all the components and i get to create.

school was never my thing and cooking gives me satisfaction.

i wanna wake up.

sometimes when i don't get my way, i can tend to get nasty.

even during this christmas season when i have abundantly more to make my life comfy and content, i can be ungrateful.

i can take so much for granted and lose total sight of what others are missing or don't have.

i pray that God would change this in me.

in Francis Chan's book "crazy love" he begs people to understand that this life is but a vapor. nothing is coming with us into eternity. not our big perfect house, the car we worked years to buy, or money. none of it. he asks often throughout the book to evaluate what is it that we hold so tightly to. for me, so often it is comfort. it is happiness and materialistic things. i pray that God would strip me of that. i don't want to hold anything tighter than i hold onto him and what he asks of me. whether that's to one day downsize my house, or give away my car or move to another country. who am i to disobey. i encourage you to pick up his book. it will change your perspective, no doubt. here a couple different people i follow daily in the blog world to anchor my perspective on eternity and not on earth.

oh if only we could run away to paris and live in one of these luxury apartments for a few weeks.

it would only cost us everything we have ever made in our entire lives, plus some.

oh well, until we make millions of dollars we'll just enjoy our little place. one can dream.

tonight we watched the infamous classic, charlie brown christmas. i think i have watched it every year since i was little, but this time i noticed so many new things. how bratty is lucy? i would've punched her if i were charlie or lynus or schroeder. poor guys.

i finally finished christmas shopping for scott.

we had a budget for a each other, so it was challenging to fit everything inside that number.

everything is so dang expensive these days.

i think we are going to do our christmas early. we want to be in our house and continue traditions we've started. it'll be weird to exchange gifts so early, but i know i'll enjoy being in our home.

for the rest of december we will be in jacksonville to spend christmas with our families.

i'm going to now watch another holiday classic, home alone :)

we watched a little christmas diddy from this guy (remains questionable) last night on the jay leno show.

barry manilow has changed quite a bit over the last few years wouldn't you say?

a few times during his performance we thought he was going to break a hip, or his arm was going to go flying as he gently waved it in sync with the tune.

jay looked like he was regretting having him perform on his precious late night act.

i think he looks like a character from the newer "the grinch stole christmas"

i think he needs to retire his act. now.

on a cheerier note, i got 4 shirts at old navy today for $20.

i proudly sported 2 of the 4 tonight and was quite pleased with my purchase.

today marks the beginning of our "christmas break" and it's exciting that we have

some down time to be together and shop for family and just relax.

i really enjoy blogging (mostly reading) and find so many women who are just so dang crafty.

it inspires me to try new things and not be afraid to just run with an idea.

i really want to use this break to

a. learn how to use a sewing machine (i vaguely know, but need to be taught again)

b. run/ exercise even more than i am now.

c. cook outside of the box

d. spend time with the Lord

i think these next few weeks could be pretty great!

the biggest loser is so stinkin great.

we watched the finale tonight and i gasped, cried, screamed and oh my gosh'ed about 50 times.

it's incredible the transformations these people go through.

this is how i feel without a christmas tree in my house.

sadly, we will not be getting one.

we are only here for a couple weeks and didn't want to spend too much

money on one that we won't have much time to enjoy.

i am still in the christmas spirit though, don't worry.

Magic Christmas has been blaring in my car non stop since the day after thanksgiving

and i plan on keeping it that way until at least new year's.

her voice can soothe me like nobody else.

i've been using this stuff like it's goin outta style lately.

everytime i cook i drench my grungy counters with it.

then i find something else to clean, grab another paper towel and go on to drenching the next thing. it is such a good cleaner and it makes the kitchen smell clean too.

plus i don't have to worry about little maggie licking it up and getting sick or if it hits a piece of silverware or something we won't have the runs for days.

in another words, if you're looking for a tough on grease and stains kinda cleaner, meet clorox anywhere.

this is audrey assad.

the first time i heard her voice was at christmas conference in atlanta three years ago.

during a sweet time of worship with her is where i felt the lord whisper to me that my life was not my own, but his. that he bought me with a price. it was during that time of worship that i felt him clearly calling me to give away my life as a missionary with Campus Crusade.

audrey has a gift unlike anyone i have ever met. within listening to one sentence of her songs, she can bring you into the throne room of Jesus. her humble presence and honesty is a rarity among worship leaders today. in two weeks she is leading worship at our staff conference in alabama. you can only imagine how thankful i am. please visit her website and listen to her songs. she is recording a new album right now, and she has a song on Chris Tomlin's new Christmas album. i know her personally, and she is incredible.

i really miss jacksonville but i am definitely glad to be at home.

we drove up into our driveway this afternoon and i noticed that our front yard is much more covered in leaves than it was before we left on friday. it made me very happy to see.

i know we don't officially see the seasons change in florida but i feel like tallahassee definitely gives us a glimpse of what everyone else gets to experience.

right now i am making sweet potato casserole for the international dinner we are having on campus. it smells so yummy baking in my oven and makes me anticipate thanksgiving dinner even more!

today is wednesday!

the week is flying by.

here i am doing my usual wednesday morning routine at the red eye.

this weekend we are going home, it'll be the first time we've been back home since

we moved to tallahassee in june!

i have missed it a ton.

have you seen the preview for this movie?

it looks like a freakin tear jerker.

i just watched the preview and my whole body is covered in goosebumps.

it looks like remember the titans on steroids.

running on thanksgiving?

so, for years my cousin Tamara has been running a half marathon every Thanksgiving morning.

this year she has asked me to do it with her.

i really want to do it because i've never done anything longer than the river run, which is 9.3 miles. i can do 3ish more miles right? anyway, i got some new running shoes and i ran a couple miles yesterday. it felt so good to work out after being sick for so long. anyway, i think i am going to do the half marathon and i'm pretty excited to do it! hopefully i don't die.
